Classic Virginity Auction

I’m not a huge fan of Howard Stern in particular, but I must acknowledge that both he and I work in the same field. We both put ourselves out there in the accessible media in an effort to make waves and grab attention. The thing is, I think he won this round.

Cue up today’s story.

If I were to ask you how much you’d sell your virginity for, how would you answer? You might not answer that question at all, and instead tell me to register on a list of public offenders. Howard Stern is asking that question of a 22 year old woman from San Diego, who volunteered to auction off her virginity to the highest bidder to foot her college loans.

Not that I have a problem with that idea, per se. After all, she would be getting a better deal than most people. I am fairly sure that most people are short-sighted enough to give theirs away for free, usually for some reason that turns out to be a regrettable choice in the long run. This girl is getting a college education out of hers!

I had two thoughts when I first heard this story in the news. The first one was this;

“Holy Mother of God, that 22-year-old bombshell is going to give it up to a 300-pound troll who happens to have 3 million dollars, acne, and a huge collection of Star Trek figures!”

My next thought was this;

“Man, I wish I had been that clever.”

Ideally, this is the perfect situation for all parties involved. The lucky winner is going to get lucky, the woman is getting a free ride to college (no pun intended), and Howard Stern is once again getting massive face time and limitless publicity. The only thing I could possibly see going wrong is if too many people (whose business it is NOT) get offended on this woman’s behalf. Man, I hate when people do that.
